Jer 1:11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said I see a rod of an almond tree.

Jer 1:12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

The focus was what he saw. God said Jeremiah you saw well. And because you saw well, I will hasten my word. So, speed comes by seeing and this was represented or symbolized by the almond. The almond tree represents 3 things that are necessary for God to hasten his word!

  1. Watchfulness and Readiness: As mentioned earlier, almond trees are among the first to bloom each year, symbolizing vigilance and being prepared for God’s word to come to fruition. This is echoed in Scripture:

“Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the Lord of hosts. (Malachi 3:1)

This passage emphasizes the importance of being watchful and ready for the Lord’s coming, just as the almond tree is ready to bloom at the earliest opportunity.

  1. God’s Active Presence and Faithfulness: The Hebrew word for “almond” sounds similar to the word for “watching” or “I will watch,” highlighting God’s active presence in our lives. This is reflected in Scripture:

“The Lord, He it is who does watch over your soul; He will redeem your life from the pit; He will redeem your soul from the power of the grave.” (Psalm 16:10, NKJV)

This verse emphasizes God’s active presence and faithfulness in watching over our souls, redeeming our lives from the pit, and delivering us from the power of the grave.

  1. New Beginnings and the Promise of Fruitfulness: The almond blossom, bursting forth after a dormant winter, speaks of new beginnings and the promise of future fruitfulness. This is illustrated in Scripture:

“For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.” (Isaiah 61:11, NKJV)
